Peter Adlington is a leading specialist in the use of the Lichtenberg Method of risk analysis, and a founder member of the Futura group of consultants.

He has specialised in risk analysis and management since 1991. He works both as an independent consultant and as part of larger, multi-disciplinary teams.

His particular competence is in facilitating multi-disciplinary risk analysis workshops using the Futura approach/Lichtenberg Method. He recommends this because it can deliver a result to the customer in days rather than months. He is also familiar with several other quantitative Monte Carlo-based analysis tools that are commonly used by companies, including @Risk and PertMaster.

Oil and Gas Experience

In recent years Peter has mostly worked in the oil industry, for companies including ConocoPhillips, BG Group, Woodside Energy Ltd, Schlumberger, AMEC, Wood Group, BHP, BP, Anadarko, El Paso, Shell, Total, INPEX and Rider Hunt.   He has had the opportunity to work on some of the largest 'mega projects' in the industry, helping to bring clarity to the uncertainties that these projects face.  These include Sakhalin II in the Russian Far East, two future LNG projects in Australia, two heavy oil projects in Venezuela and an oil sands project in Alberta.

He has also worked on many smaller upstream and downstream projects in locations including Alaska, Venezuela, Malaysia, Vietnam, Russia, the North Sea, Gulf of Mexico, Abu Dhabi, Nigeria, Algeria, Uganda, India, Italy, Columbia and Brazil.

His inputs have involved:

  • facilitating qualitative and quantitative risk workshops relating to cost and schedule risks
  • reviewing operating costs and risks
  • field shutdown planning
  • field decommissioning
  • contracting strategy
  • the analysis and resolution of claims
